TAKE ACTION: SEND A
We believe that together as a community there is a way to find a path forward where Craig Street Commons and Qualicum Commons can continue to support an array of community groups so they can serve our community for years to come.
To protect the Qualicum and Craig Street Commons from being closed or sold, we are forming the Oceanside Commons Society (OCS). We are proposing that the Qualicum School District enter into an agreement with the OCS who will manage the day to day operations and necessary building upgrades and repairs. The OCS's mission will be to support and grow the services offered at these sites to serve local needs. We are proposing that the OCS be made up of community members who represent the residents of Oceanside as well as members who represent the tenants in the building. The idea is to create a society that is for the community by the community. The OCS can fundraise and can access grants and other funding unavailable to the school district.
We submitted our proposal on October 11, 2024. Read our proposal below.
On December 6, 2024 we submitted an Addendum to our proposal to provide additional details and and clarify the benefits of a community approach.
The proposal and addendum aim to give the Qualicum School District confidence that this model can be financially sustainable and beneficial for the community at large.
